In general, the activities of the Greenhouse Gas Coalition (GHG Coalition) can
be divided into four basic areas:
-
A Regulatory Analysis Service - providing a centralized source of
information on climate change issues occurring on state, regional, and
federal levels, through the publication Climate Change Briefing and
the U.S. Climate Policy
website.
-
Technical Analysis Assistance - an “on-call” limited response
function for members focused on more in-depth understanding of a
regulatory proposal or on the implication for their specific business.
-
A Forum for Strategic Discussions - conference calls and meetings
for members to discuss the implications of emerging climate change
policies. Such conference calls and meetings occur on a
regular basis and often include key regulators, policymakers, and
representatives from the environmental community.
-
Co-ordination of Strategic Action - allowing for the development
of strategic advocacy efforts. Depending on the situation
and perspective of individual members, the GHG Coalition may develop
consensus position statements and submitt comments to stakeholder
processes as well as legislative and regulatory proceedings.
For example, several GHG Coalition members developed comprehensive
policy recommendations for the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative and
provided comments on Regional Greenhouse Gas Registry proposals.
